Universal Wi-Fi in Moscow Schools by March

All Moscow schools will be equipped with wireless Internet by the end of February, City Hall said in a statement Monday.

"Wi-Fi gives teachers and pupils additional freedom and possibilities for using electronic educational resources," Alexander Gorbatko, deputy head of the city's Information Technology Department was quoted in the statement as saying.

MGTS, which has provided telecommunications to city schools since 2011, will organize and service the networks. As part of its service, it will filter out inappropriate content.

All schools currently enjoy high-speed Internet access of 10 megabits per second and faster, and Gorbatko said the city has made "serious investments" in upgrading school computers. Schools have been furnished with laptops, which can be used in any class and in academic subjects as varied as geography and foreign languages.
