Families of Tyva Teens Missing in Avalanche to Get Compensation

The president of the Tyva republic signed an order Tuesday to give 100,000 rubles ($3,300) in compensation to the families of six teenagers missing in an avalanche, Interfax reported Tuesday.

The operation to find the six teenagers, missing since Sunday morning, is still under way.

Solban Kara-ool, the president of the republic, said the compensation is meant to make up for the time the parents are taking off work to search for their children.

Seven teenagers were skiing down Ak-Bashtyg Mountain when they were caught in an avalanche, which buried them under 4 to 6 meters of snow. One escaped and alerted rescue workers shortly after.
