Tom Schroeders animated Belgian roosters, acting out a Greek tragedy in "Marcel, King of Tervuren." His bold, hand-painted animal creation, Marcel, faces a series of trials in this short film, being shown at 35mm until May 9.

Boris Godunov: Alexander Sokurov stages Mussorgsky's musical drama based on Pushkin's tragedy about the tsar (1598-1605) who ruled in the Time of Troubles. Bolshoi Theater Main Stage. Tuesday and Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Theater

The protagonists of "Mitya's Love" kissing. The young man and the actress are removed from time and space in this scene from Vladislav Nastavshev's take on the Ivan Bunin story, being staged at the Gogol Center on May 1.

Exhibits

A visitor wandering around some 200 works by cubist-surrealist Catalan artist Joan Miro, who lived through the Spanish Civil War. The collection, at Moscow Museum of Modern Art, includes a reconstruction of his old studio.
